How come, in the movie, when Ethan tried to pick Linda up in his arms, he couldn't. Here we have an obviously weaker Mary Batson doing it. No fair!

I called lack of continuity. IN the pre-crisis.. their invulnerability was due to kryptonians having very dense bodies which translates on them been very heavy, of course that's not practical unless they are always flying and just pretending to *walk*.

Current version has a force field and this version here, the Earth Angel.. has no explanation on her powers, she wasn't kriptonian.
