Dragonfly #1 peril, laser blast

Categories BlastPeril

Bill Black is my one and only honest to God living hero. He started AC comics (Americomics) in the early 70's and has consistently provided us with hundreds of GGA/DID stories to stimulate and keep our juices flowing. Dragonfly was one of his early 80's innovations, and sadly he discontinued her -- not because of poor sales -- but because of the financial arrangement he had made with her creator and principal artist, Rik Levins -- it seems Rik wanted 100% of the profits, and after 8 great issues, Bill could no longer afford that financial drain on his company. Still, she was beautiful to behold, and consistently in peril, issue after issue. This page is taken from her first issue (#1) and it shows her doing battle with a Robot equipped with a powerful laser beam which he shoots from his eyes. The blast is nearly fatal for the shapely superheroine, and only her superpowers save her. Unfortunately, in none of Rik's stories is she ever unconscious or arm carried . . . not sure why, perhaps he didn't get around to it in the short run she had, but she does have a lot of perilous scenes. Below she is hit by the laser beam, falls from her flight, hits the pavement hard, and slowly recovers. In the end she "defeats" the robot, but he resurrects in a future issue to provide more DID for all of us. Have fun and enjoy this great looking winged superheroine.

Thanks for the images! I have the complete run of the series, somewhere in storage. It is fun to see these images again!
