Somewhere round about 1997 onwards the Internet, newspapers and TV echoed the news that all computers would stop working at the start of AD2000. The predictions about the effects of this ranged from complete melt down of defense systems to airliners falling out of the sky and just about every conceivable catastrophe in between. Apocalypse 2000 seemed imminent.

Actually - nothing happened.

While the situation with Megaupload is naturally concerning there's a lot of wisdom in waiting to see what does happen. Just take the precaution of backing up what is normally viewed on line.

I'm not worried about the Megaupload situation (or Filesonic, Fileserve, etc). I'm already seeing alternative sites being used.

Inevitably, more sites will pop up as there is a real market for this service. The only bad thing is, millions of links are now dead and many terabytes of files must be uploaded again. Luckily we have lots of time and bandwidth!
