Ah, October... the only time of year one can watch a constant glut of horror films and monster movies. What's yours?
My favorite is George Romero's "Night Of The Living Dead". I like the simplicity and the paranoia of which enemy is more dangerous: the ghouls or the terrified people in the farmhouse. I think I like his "Dawn" next, because of the amusing slam of commercialism, which he did because he lost his shirt due to being cheated of the rights to "Night".
One of my favorites is a recent film by Frank Darabont called "The Mist". Really good acting, story telling and quite disturbing as well. I've seen it two or three times. The ending though...wow, it hits you like a punch in the gut. Truly gut wrenching.

I also watch "The Mist" and I completely agree with you. The film was great, really really great except for the ending. I think the main character will gone insane after that kind of thing.
SPOILER: HE EVEN KILL HIS OWN SON AND FEW OTHER JUST FOR NOTHING. IN FACT, THEY SHOULD BE SAFE IF NOT BECAUSE OF HIS DECISION. WHEN HE WANT TO SUICIDE, HE`S RUN OUT OF BULLET.
For me, I like "Resident Evil" especially "Resident Evil Apocalypse." Cool movie, can`t wait for the fourth sequel.
I have noticed something, though. There aren't any great horror actors like Vincent Price, Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, Boris Karloff, Bela Lugosi, or Peter Lorie. The type of horror film today doesn't lend itself to making horror stars anymore. It's basically gore. That's the plot. They've made another Saw film, for pity's sake!

Yeah, what are they on now? "Saw" five hundred? And they're not even about saws anymore. At least one of them had a chloro scene (which sucked).
The old classic horror where the villain carries an unconscious damsel is gone.

I have a friend named Joe (not mentioning his last name to prevent search-engine issues) who is an actor/playwright. He's been in a few low-budget, direct-to-DVD horror movies and producers at Lion's Gate actually told him they wanted to make him a "horror star." He'd be a good one: tall, skinny, bald, gaunt, pale, with creepy eyes and a leering face (though in reality he's a sweet guy.) Unfortunately, I don't think the scripts are being written. Joe's best role was in a REALLY BAD horror movie called "Monster Man." He doesn't appear until the final third of the film, but his performance is fun, even though the rest of the movie sucks. (He plays "Brother Fred," if you ever happen to see the movie. I'm not recommending it though.)
I have seen allot of horror movies but its hard to choose. I have to say one of my faves is dawn of the dead( not the remake). romero is the only one that can pull off any zombie flicks

I dunno, I actually wish Vincent Price had gone on to make a lot more mainstream movies, because he is so much better than his shlock-horror reputation would make you think.
There have been modern horror stars, though, they just follow modern horror trends. Robert Englund, for instance. Or Kane Hodder, the guy who played Jason for most of the Friday the 13th movies. Ron Perlman would be another example, having played a ton of great roles under makeup. Or Doug Jones.
As far as favorite horror movies go, The Creature from the Black Lagoon holds up surprisingly well. You should definitely watch it. The sequels, not so much.
Also, the remake of Texas Chainsaw Massacre is nasty, but Jessica Biel is amazingly hot in it. And she gets a nice sleepy scene in it, as well.
