More famous for illustrating Phantom Lady, it is still true that whenever Matt Baker does the art -- whoever it may be -- you know it will be the best ever. . . . and that is certainly the case in this Tiger Girl story. I have always had a special fondness for Tiger Girl anyway, but I suspect Matt's art is the basic reason for it. She had a nice long run in Fight Comics beginning with #32 and running all the way to #82 -- 50 issues in all, longer than Rulah and Phantom Lady, even though Sheena tops them all. In this story an evil Witch Doctor comes on the scene and tries to chase all the competition out of Africa. He has a lot of henchmen/women helping him, but Tiger Girl senses his sinister ways and takes him on anyway. His subjects grab her, hold her, and then toss her into a snake pit. She survives and returns to defeat them all, jungle justice ultimately prevailing. If you enjoy this jungle beauty as much as I do, you will find this as well as all her stories, a real treat!
P.S. The cover of this issue of Fight has a great Senorita Rio scene on it, but alas, the Rio story inside does not reflect the cover . . . another bait and switch. Still, it's a great cover.
