Despite his appearances in Spanish comics, Fantomas was created by Frenchmen Allain and Souvestre, in a series of 43 novels. More than 6 movies have been made about him, including a series of 3 in the '60s intended to compete with the Bond films. Fantomas is a master of disguise, with a criminal imagination comparable to the Joker's. In the first novel, he sinks an ocean liner with all aboard simply to dispose of one of his false identities.
