Camilla in Jungle #73 netted, head KO - also Ann

Categories Head KOPerilUnconscious

Camilla is one of my favorite jungle girls, although her stories are only really good every so often. This episode is fair. Two traders scheme to rob an elephant burial ground for its precious ivory tusks. Enroute to the sacred spot, one partner, wanting all the treasure for himself, knocks the other unconscious and tosses him into the river. Moments later, Camilla, swimming for pleasure, spies the sinking body and rescues the nearly dead trader from the river bottom. He tells her what his ex-partner is up to and Camilla goes to intervene. She is spotted, however, and a trap is set and she and the other fellow are netted. Camilla is then pistol whipped unconscious. Her faithful pet dog, Fang, with uncanny intelligence, causes a nearby herd of elephants to start a stampede and they trample the baddie, causing Camilla and the other guy to be saved.

In the other story, Ann, Kaanga's mate, is flipped overhead by a wicked jungle queen who has dinosaurs for pets. Kaanga intervenes, but is outnumbered by all the queen's tribal warriors. In the end, Kaanga escapes and sends the primeval beast into a time warp where he is doomed and he and Ann escape. No mention of the evil queen is mentioned at the end, so she probably goes her way untouched and ready to fight another day. I have always considered Ann one of the best illustrated of all the jungle girls of the golden age. Unfortunately for me, however, I like my heroines to be strong and self-reliant, and 99% of the time Ann is weak and ineffective. As great as she looks, she rarely excites me. Perhaps you are different. Hope so!
