The Woman in red is one of my favorite Golden Age Heroines/Damsel in Distress. In just a short amount of Pages, she spent more time in Peril and being knocked out. She and the Phantom Lady should share stories.
Sally the Sleuth was the same way.
British Version of Psylocke from the X-men spend many times being Ko'ed or in peril. So they got her some body armour, that simply seemed to enhance the amount of peril she was placed in.
