Finding Sleepy Scenes in 2017

Jan 26, 2017 12:27 AM | Comments(2)

First off, I want to wish all my visitors a Happy New Year! Welcome to 2017.

I've been running this website for 11 years now (started around 2006). I took a break from updating Sleepycomics.com because other things took precedence. New relationships, new jobs, new hobbies. I got really into drawing art and continue posting a piece here and there on deviantArt.

I've been pretty active on Twitter, and you can follow me @sleepycomics. I have about 300 followers, though most of them are probably bots. I post lots of cool sleepy content on Twitter, and I do it mainly because it's more accessible and modern. We live in a social media age after all.

There's other people now searching comics and manga for content. There's @IeonScans who posts tons of manga content on Western Civilization Forum. Project X is posting comic book finds on the Chloroforum. And yes, there's still me. I check sites like Comic Book Resources and Read Comic Online for scenes. Kissmanga.com is for manga scans. Tons of stuff there, no time to go through it all.

ReadComicOnline.to is amazing by the way. I've used it to go back and check older scenes. Often there's additional content to be found. Of course you can use it to check current comics too. Obviously, it's in a legal grey area, but it's what we have now. A lot of the old Comic CBR file sites are down now.
Go ahead and use this as a resource to find comic scenes. If you find anything good, send me a tweet or email me! I will respond.

I must admit, one of the reasons I stopped updating Sleepycomics.com was due to laziness. It was tedious having to upload images to Photobucket and then manually copy the links into a form. I built a program a few days ago that would make it easier for me to upload images now. It bypasses that Photobucket system, so the images go straight to my server. Much better now, especially since Photobucket compressed images to 1024 pixels.

A lot of you may have forgotten your password to this site or want to open an account. For any of those, just email me and I'll take care of it. I got rid of the sign up form because there was too much spam.

Is Twitter the answer?

May 31, 2014 11:58 PM | Comments(4)

If anyone follows my Twitter handle, @sleepycomics, you may have noticed that I am posting scene finds there. I used to never care about Twitter, but I suddenly started realizing its benefits.

First off, Twitter is integrated into my tablet and phone, so I can post things wherever I am. When I tuned a new scene, it's much faster to just tweet the image with some hash tags, than it is to input it into my database. Once tweeted, all of my followers can see it on their phone as well.

Other people can tweet information to me as well. If one of you finds a cool sleepy scene, you can just tweet it to @sleepycomics, and I'll see it.

I'm still checking comics these days, and I do find some great scenes. I've been lazy to post them though. Twitter enables me to post things faster. I'll be using it more I think.

Try it out! Visit my Twitter profile today: @sleepycomics

Why I haven't been updating this site...

Nov 09, 2013 09:56 AM | Comments(3)

So yes, I am still alive. I even made some original art recently!

Life's moving for me. I landed a new job in NYC, that's keeping me pretty busy. I'm spending lots of time on my other hobbies, which include juggling and even learning how to unicycle.

Am I the same prolific comic/manga searcher I was three years ago? Probably not. I occasionally skim the latest comics, but not everything. Here are some of the reasons I've lost motivation to search:

* It gets harder and harder to find good scenes. This is because we have a database of AMAZING scenes, so all new stuff is mediocre.

* Managing tens of thousands of images is difficult. Already I have a hard time locating a scene on my own hard disk! Backing things up takes longer.

* I've already surpassed my goal. I wanted to find the best comic and manga sleepy scenes, and I feel like I've done that. There's nothing left to prove.

I still check this site a lot. I always go back and look at my favorite comic scenes. A lot of times I rediscover scenes I forgot about, and it's an awesome feeling!

Keep submitting scenes though, there's been some neat stuff lately! Thanks!

Yeah I got side tracked...

Dec 18, 2012 09:40 PM | Comments(2)

Okay, so I have this annoying trait. I get interested in hobbies in waves. One month, I'll be really into something, such as working on Sleepycomics.com. Another month, I'll have no motivation to work on it. I really wish I'd stop getting side tracked!

I still find time to draw some art every week. I have this thing going where I am trying to draw all the Sailor Senshi getting chloroformed. It's kind of addicting...you just want to "chloro 'em all". The good news is, free art for everyone! Think of it as a holiday gift.

I will likely go dark as the holidays get nearer, as I will be traveling and meeting family.

So, I got nothing else to say. Have a safe holiday everyone!

Happy Thanksgiving

Hope everyone has a happy Thanksgiving! Now is the time to give thanks and to appreciate all the good things in life. I'm spending some time with my family (which is basically my brother).

Not much else to talk about. I'm slowing easing myself back into this site. Life's just getting in the way!

Election over! Now I need to get back into art...

Nov 07, 2012 08:35 AM | Comments(14)

Every four years, I get so into politics. I am sort of a political junkie if you will. It consumes my life. Well President Obama was re-elected, and I think our nation needs to unite around him.

And now I need to think of a scene to draw.

I'm starting to have some doubts about the viability of the sleepy comics store. I thought it would be a little more popular, but it was probably wishful thinking. I'll try it for a few more weeks, and then maybe move to something else. I'll probably go back to just posting art to deviantArt.

East Coast people, stay safe!

Oct 29, 2012 10:53 AM | Comments(4)

Hurricane Sandy is about to barrel through my city (NYC), so I am hunkering down. Anyone else in the path of the hurricane? If so, stay safe.

Also, I probably won't have new art until after the U.S. Election maybe. I unfortunately got addicted to all the political analysis. Just 8 more days until this madness ends.

I am debating between drawing a Batgirl or Wonder Woman scene though.

New video game art: Samus Aran!

Oct 23, 2012 09:04 PM | Comments(6)

This week's store art features Samus Aran, the main female protagonist of Nintendo's Metroid series. The drawing has Samus in her 'Zero Suit' being carried unconscious. The drawing is set in an arena I saw from Super Smash Brother's Brawl. It's a very high quality drawing and well worth the 99 cent donation.

Store sales have sort of dropped, so I may slow down my drawing pace. I try to draw a little every day, but I sometimes get a little lazy. So if it seems like I am not posting anything, don't worry. I still love unconscious and chloroform art, and it's so satisfying to draw my favorite characters in peril.

Thanks in advance if you make a store purchase!

Gone for a short vacation again

Oct 18, 2012 10:52 PM | Comments(1)

Hi guys, I will be away for a short vacation this weekend. Won't be able to finish this week's art until next Monday, sorry! It's a really cool piece, from a video game. The line art is all done, it just needs coloring.

Don't forget about the 99 cent ChadThH artwork for sale! If you only ever bought one piece of art ever, buy the Sue Storm comic. Well worth it!

Two Sue Storm art pieces for sale this week!

Oct 13, 2012 08:17 PM | Comments(5)

This week I have two brand new pieces of art up for sale. First, user BobKO generously donated a piece done by ChadTheH. It's a six panel comic showing Sue Storm getting gassed to sleep and carried by Doctor Doom. Stellar stuff!

By coincidence, I also created a Sue Storm art piece. This one has her being chloroformed by The Lagoon Monster, based on Fantastic Four issue #124. It's another awesome piece!

You can have both drawings for a 99 cent donation to sleepycomics.com. For those who'd like to buy all the art, you can sign up for an account and fund it with credits. 10 credits is $8.99 and lets you download 10 pieces of art.
